One of A Kind Funky Junk Finds...

I'm watching Design Star on HGTV and it really reminds me how much vintage items inspire me; their form, their function, their worn and rediscovered beauty. Earlier I was enjoying looking through my "junk stash" in the garage and taking pictures of some of my favorite finds of the week. Then it occured to me that it would be fun to share some of my one of a kind funky junk finds every week this summer until Labor Day and our Funky Junk Show in Sandpoint, ID.
So these are just a sampling of some of my favorites this week, some are going to the show, some are staying with me for awhile; but all of them inspired me in some way. Enjoy your week, and I'll keep on funky junking...

Piece of Cake

I admit it. I was looking forward to The Farm Chicks after party/Cake premier as much as the actual show. For a long time Farm Chick and Chaps fan, this was the combination of so many good things all wrapped up in yummy pastry! It did not disapoint. Cake is a jewel of a bakery and I cannot wait to go and hang out there and eat. Alot. Both hang out and eat alot. Serena and Celeste were the best hostesses and wow. The food, the ambience, the desserts (I tried almost every one), the atmosphere, the music, the drinks, the guests, Celeste's incomparable staff, it was just pure magic. I floated home. And every time I need a happy thought, my mind floats back to that night. Thank you Celeste and Serena for making such an amazing night in the middle of two dreamy days a reality.

Buttercuppity, Huckelberry's...I'm hungry now.

There's nothing like a trip to Huckelberry's on Spokane's south hill to cheer this mama up. It's quite a jaunt for us north siders, but when we need the goods, we head up the hill. With Haden at school today and just Liam and Finn in tow, I knew we could do it. Then I found out that Ari at Buttercuppity wanted my pretty in pink dresser that I had at the Farm Chicks and a whole morning of fun was born.

My lovely sister Angela accompianed me, so the shopping went pretty smoothly,(except when Finn bashed the cart into my leg). We got a couple of heirloom plants for our newly planted garden (Liam is quite the farmer already) and I picked up two bags of the Four Seasons coffee that part of the proceeds go to 2nd Harvest. Huckelberry's is also having a food drive for 2nd Harvest Food Bank, so a great chance to get and give all in one stop!

We packed up our healthy bags of goodness and headed back down the hill to downtown Spokane and destination Buttercuppity! We parked out front and went in the door of the magical fabric store that Ari & Michael have created. They are such wonderful people! It felt like home and they were super gracious meeting us at the shop on the day that I could deliver there new dresser, "pinkie". Michael helped me roll her up into the shop and there she sat in all of her glory! A perfect fit for such a fun, colorful, lively shop! While Angela watched the two boys play in the fun kids area, I was able to fit a bit of shopping in, and even signed up for a class, which I've been wanting to do this since early spring. Thankfully Mark (my husband) was okay with me filling my Sunday afternoon up with this outing!

Check out their website and store, you will not be disappointed!! You can't help but leave happy after visiting with Ari (she makes you feel like you could sew anything!) and Michael (who helped me pick out fabric for a special Father's Day project).

By the time we left the boys were so done with shopping and I realized that I hadn't filled the meter, so it was time to head home for lunch and nap. Good morning with super good people. I love my jobs as mommy and junker.

Funky Junk Loves Farm Chicks

I'm not sure which came first, the Farm Chicks clouds making me feel dreamy, or me just really feeling the dreamy glow of Farm Chicks and thinking how well the clouds fit my mood. Either way, it was a dream like weekend for a girl who started her junking journey shopping the Farm Chicks show way back when...it was 2004, but that seems like forever in junking years.
What an awesome mix of vendors, old friends from the previously mentioned way back when, and so many new ones. When I wasn't busy doing what I was there to do, I loved walking around and getting to meet the faces behind the creative and inspiring booths. Thank you, thank you Serena, and her family and friends, and everyone who was so sweet and welcoming and generous with their time and energy! You made it feel like coming home.

Farm Visit before Farm Chicks

We were really lucky. My mom decided to host our annual Memorial Day BBQ out at their house. I don't know if I've told you that they live on farm land, but it is farmed by someone else, so they get the views but not the work. (Good thing, since they are retired teachers and deserve a break!) This turned out to be a brilliant idea since we all needed a break from our house. So, we packed up and went out for an afternoon just hanging out with the family inside since the weather was unpredictable at best. I decided however, to take a walk, a 3 mile walk, to clear my mind. I had found out some terrible news about a friend, had many tough to-do lists and decisions to sort out, and just needed to breathe the rarefied air out there.
The only thing I had to listen to was the crunch of gravel and the conversations of birds. Their wasn't a drop of rain on my long walk but the cloud scenery suited my mood. So as I walked and talked out loud and ran and breathed and prayed I felt my spirits lift. And as I turned up the driveway, the sun broke through promising better days ahead. Or at least the chance of them.
So having had a very mini retreat I headed to my friend Christy's house. Christy is sharing a booth with me at the Farm Chicks
and we had some last minute projects to work on for our Come Junk With Us friends who will be visiting the show. It was so nice to be welcomed in out of the(torrential downpour) rain to spend a few precious minutes oohing and ahhing over her junk finds that she's bringing to share with all of us. She's so creative and fun,and as a bonus I got to watch her daughter Gracie laughing and dancing in the rain on the porch. Again my spirits were lifted, my burdens gone for a little bit. So I'm heading into Farm Chicks bolstered by the love of family and friends and more than a little excited about the shared love of fun and junk we are all soon to experience. See you soon!
